[Overview]

Korea’s economy, which displayed a prudent recovery from the global financial crisis, is showing warning indicators of a crisis of its own reflected on the slowdown in its growth. In order for the Korean economy to overcome this crisis, a structural change needs to take place, one that ultimately leads to a knowledge-based economy through innovation.

Recognizing that the transition toward a knowledge-based economy is of great significance to securing the growth of the Korean economy, creating high quality jobs, and enhancing the consumer welfare, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF) and the Korea Development Institute (KDI) are holding this international conference. This conference is to be attended by distinguished foreign and domestic experts to provide practical policy implications on diverse issues including the importance of innovation, the global trends in the manufacturing and service sector, as well as the current status and challenges of the Korean manufacturing and services.

[Objective]

To comprehend the global trends of industrial innovation and of the service sector; and to create opportunities for learning from the experiences of advanced nations in order to seek a strategy that will help bring Korea’s industrial structure and service sector at par with the advanced nations.
