「Korea’s Education Reform」

Education is a broad challenge for many developing countries which intersects with many sectors of development such as health and infrastructure. Developing regions have progressed on expanding access to primary education, and the number of out-of-school children dropped by almost half from 2000 to 2011, according to the United Nations. With one year left until the deadline of Millennium Development Goals, the educational development should also be directed to ensuring better and more vocational and higher education. Korea has achieved remarkable economic growth and the education sector has expanded dramatically at the same time. A large proportion of children had no access to primary schooling in 1950s, but Korea now stands at the highest completion rate of the upper secondary education among all the OECD countries. The KDI School of Public Policy and Management, in line with the Center for Innovations in Public Systems (CIPS) workshop, is hosting a videoconference that provides a comprehensive understanding of Korea’s education reform.
