KDIS-WBI-CAG Policy Forum and Exposure Visit to Korea

Over the past several decades, China has experienced rapid and sustained growth, managing to maintain a relatively high level of growth and urbanization has played an important role in the development and modernization of China. Although rapid urbanization has greatly accelerated economic and social development in China, challenges remain for sustainable development, particularly including increased air and water pollution, increased energy demands and insufficient housing and public services. In China, the government has played a critical role in managing its economic development, a role that will likely continue in the future. The challenge for China will be to ensure broad-based economic and social transformation, ensuring that the fruits of its rapid growth are broad-based.

With this in mind, KDI School of Public Policy and Management (KDI School), Chinese Academy of Governance (CAG), and the World Bank (WB) propose to organize a forum of leading experts and Chinese senior government officials aimed at not only better understanding the issues and challenges faced by China but also presenting the set of policy tools available to decision-makers in various sectors of government. The themes explored during the course of high-level policy forum will be based on research and country case studies and will be tailored to address the leading issues and challenges in China. And during the course, the delegation from China will also have a chance to interact with Korean civil servants and government officials from developing countries and visit Korean metropolitan cities and major industrial sites through field trips.
