Managing Climate Extremes and Hydrologic Disasters:
Scientific Prediction and Emergency Preparedness
Overview

This international symposium will explore the nexus between climate, water, and disaster management. The first day will focus on bridging the gap between climate information providers and water resource managers by sharing the current predictabilities, limitations, and uncertainties of climate models for water management, at both the seasonal climate and climate change time-scales. Days 2 & 3 will feature sessions divided by hazard type: droughts and water security, floods and typhoons, and water quality. In the final session on Day 3, an expert panel discussion will explore integrated water resources management, which addresses the full spectrum from sustainable resource usage to emergency planning. Leading experts and keynote speakers will include Dr. David Rogers and Dr. Konstantine P. Georgakakos.
