More and more countries have become members of the WTO since it was established in 1995. WTO members? The WTO makes it easier for countries to cooperate in furthering their interests, which would have been impossible in an international system that is lacking a central authority. It exists to facilitate cooperation among states that want to achieve or maintain economic development through open trade. Cooperation does not necessarily mean that states work together to attain a common good.
