An analysis of international trade in transportation services in Korea

Frame of Image t growing economies in the world from the early 1960s to the late 1990s. Korea’s economic development in those years has been based on industrialization stressing manufacturing rather than service industries. However, the importance of the service sector has been increasing in recent years. The services industry constitutes the largest sector of Korea’s economy in terms of production and employment. Korea’s service industry employed about 67.3% of the total workers and accounted for 60.3% of GDP in 2008. But this was still lower compared to other developed countries. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the characteristics of trade in transportation services for people and freight. We also analyze the relative competitiveness of transportation services of Korea using several indices of the services trade market structure with a comparison of OECD countries. We provide a statistical review of trade in services data from the OECD
