competitiveness of individual economic actors - e.g., employees, firms, and government -, is based on the human capital theory(Becker, 1975)1). Generally, the investments in human resources - for example, job training - help improve the productivity of the employees and increase their wages. And the competitiveness of a firm and a nation is positively associated with the level of its human resources. Then, would corporate performance improve if a company increases the investments in human resources for its employees? How much do a company’s HR investments actually contribute to its performance? How should human resources be developed and managed to improve corporate performance? These questions have important implications for business strategies or governmental policies as well as academic research.
