development, enhancing the quality of life, protecting the environment and contributing to international efforts addressing climate change. Korea’s “New Green Growth” strategy has 3 areas: development as a new growth engine, minimizing energy/resources usage with steady growth and minimizing CO2 and other emissions using the same amount of energy resources. In the pursuit of the development of new growth engines, there are essential policies such as R&D investment in green technologies, industry promotion and the export of green businesses such as renewable energies a n d the support of international “green” markets. To minimize energy/resource usage with steady growth, there must be a transformation to a more energy-efficient industry structure, led by the knowledge-based service industry, energy efficiency enhancement and move towards more eco-friendly policies. Finally, in order to minimize CO2 and other emissions,diffusion of renewable energies, clean energy development, CO2 emission control, development of low carbon/eco-friendly infrastructure and the promotion of green product purchases are necessary policy measures.
