economic variables. Among these variables, large swings in the exchange rate in a small open economy such as Korea’s have an impact on the domestic labor market. However, most of previous discussion did not directly scrutinize the impact of the exchange rate on employment since they regard the relationship between the employment rate and exchange rate as an incidental side effect in the dynamic economic process. Only a limited amount of studies have focused on the direct effect of the exchange rate on the labor market. Gourinchas(1998), Burgess and Knetter(1998), Klein and Triest(2000), Campa and Goldberg(2001), and Leung and Yuen(2007) theoretically and empirically investigate the direct relationship between the exchange rate and employment from a microeconomic perspective.1) The studies find that employment is
