Entrepreneurship and its determinants in Korea

productivity have slowed due to lower investment and diminishing total factor productivity. In order to overcome such a slowdown, we need to transform our economy from a factor-input style to an innovation-driven style. Our economy has structural problems and improvements in productivity have failed to induce increased investment and job creation. Being called a fourth production input, entrepreneurship is recognized as a growth engine that could boost growth potential by increasing investment and creating new jobs through innovative activities. In particular, policy makers in the United States a n d the EU have grown increasingly attentive to developing and implementing strategies that could increased the vitality of the economy and increase job creation by fostering entrepreneurial activity. Despite increasing interest in entrepreneurship in Korea, there have been few empirical studies on measuring the level of entrepreneurship and its determinants in Korea due to the lack of data. Using a comprehensive data source on entrepreneurship such as the GEM(Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) survey, we compare the entrepreneurship level of Korea with that of other countries and to analyze the determinants of entrepreneurship in Korea.
