Regional Industrial Policy in Korea - Its outcome and implications regions’ growth potential to secure their sustainable development. Since 1999, Korea has been promoting‘regional key industry promotion projects’with the aim of creating clusters for innovation-oriented regional development. Currently, a total of 32 projects are under way in 13 cities and provinces outside the Metropolitan area(table 1). Significant spending by the central and local governments has been made in this project. Several regional institutions including companies, universities, research institutions, and business-supporting institutions are participating in policies and projects related to regional industry promotion. In order to achieve efficient promotion and productive effects of the policy, a thorough analysis and evaluation of the policy outcome is needed. This article will examine the outcome index of regional industrial policy focusing on regional key industry promotion projects by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy.
2. Current Situation of Regional Industrial Policy
