Designing a university-industry cooperative HRD system for the globalization era

Frame of Image  university-industry cooperation systems for HRD that correspond to equally multi-level innovation systems, that is, global, national, and regional, for the purpose of solving chronic labor market problems such as high unemployment rates of young college graduates and mismatches between job and education levels. This paper categorizes the recommended models of university-industry cooperative HRD as follows: (1) university-industry cooperative HRD for GIS (Global Innovation System); (2) university-industry cooperative HRD for NIS (National Innovation System); and (3) university-industry cooperative HRD for RIS (Regional Innovation System). It then classifies and matches colleges and universities with these three models and suggests future policy directions for university-industry cooperative HRD in Korea. As to university-industry cooperative HRD for GIS, educating and training global talent through cooperation between global companies and top-level research universities is essential. For this, it is necessary for at least a few major domestic universities to jump to the top level of global research capability. For university-industry cooperative HRD for NIS, rules and governance should first be set. Also establishing an agency that oversees research and mediate university-industry cooperative education will be desirable. Lastly, as to
