Gender differences in values and political orientations : A comparison of Korea and Japan

Frame of Image q u a l i t y in some attitudes — values, psychological involvement, political cynicism, e l i t e - c h a l l e n g i n g activities — that are important for political activity. The findings indicate that both socialization and situational e x p l a n a t i o n s are still relevant in these two Asian nations. Specifically uncovered are: 1) K o r e a n women are less likely to exhibit m o d e r n values and political orientations ( e x c e p t for protest) than their Japanese c o u n t e r p a r t s ; 2) regardless of age and e d u c a t i o n , single Korean women are more l i k e l y to possess modern values, whereas single Japanese counterparts are less likely to participate in protest activity than one being m a r r i e d , 3) intra-sex differences in p s y c h o l o g i c a l involvement in politics and political cynicism among both women fade when age and education are held constant.
