Part-time and full time female employment in Europe since 2000.
•Before the crisis: female employment grew by 11.5 million units; part-time employment accounted for
nearly half of this increase.
•During the crisis: part-time work was often used to avoid redundancies; it grew by another 1.2 millions
while full-time employment lost nearly2 million units.

The share of part-time employment before and during the crisis
• Before the crisis Germany, Italy and Spain(three of the largest countries) contributed the most to the rise in incidence of part-time employment at aggregate level • During the crisis the increase in part-time was more equally shared among countries.
The EU 1997 directive on part-time employment
— The purpose is to eliminate discrimination against part-time workers ,
develop voluntary part-time work and improve the quality.
— Par t-time workers may not be treated in a less favourable manner than
comparable full-time workers solely because they work part-time.
— The social partners and/or Member States should identify, review and
eliminate
