Frame of Image ment, and civic groups. In the aftermath of the crisis, Korea has made significant advancements in corporate governance reform where the dynamic changes have garnered great interest from experts around the world. In spite of the considerable progress, the reforms carried out were largely initiated by the government in which a paradigm to enable market forces to exert pressures was inadequately established. In this regard, the Korea Development Institute held an international conference on Corporate Governance and Capital Markets in Korea by bringing together knowledgeable participants from the Korean and international academic communities. The conference sought to assess both empirically and theoretically the fruits of the reform efforts in Korea’s corporate governance, in particular, among conglomerates since the financial crisis and discuss the challenges that lie ahead based on the assessment. It is hoped that discussing the experiences of advanced nations on the corporate governance reform will serve as a meaningful stepping stone for Korea to set an appropriate policy direction for the future. This is the proceedings of the conference. I would like to thank the organizer of the conference, Dr. Youngjae Lim as well as the participants of the seminar, in particular those participants from abroad. Oh-Seok HYUN President of KDI
