Abstract

This paper investigates technological, institutional and relevant determinants of firms' size of sales, ownership form and export orientation and also the relationships among three of them in IT(Information and Technology) and textile manufacturing industries of Korea. IT industry has been one of the strategic export leading industries during 1990s while textile industry has been in the boundary of these since 1970s. One specific objective is to test for endogeneity in firm's choices regarding size of sales, export orientation and ownership form in the strategic export promoting IT industry and less strategic textile industry and then compare the results of the two. Second is to test the relative effects of the various determinants of each of these decisions of the firms in the each industry. This study is based on micro data from the rapidly growing IT and Textile manufacturing industries from the Report on Mining and Manufacturing Survey for 1999.
