The Act on the Promotion of the Economic Activities of Career-Interrupted Women (hereinafter, the Act) was enacted on June 5, 2008 and came into force on December 6, 2008, but has since experienced only one revision. The main purpose of the amendment was to lead central and local governments to take into account life cycles, maternity and disabilities when they craft and carry out policies on the promotion of the economic activities of career-interrupted women in order to prevent discrimination against women with disabilities.
However, the Act focused on helping career-disrupted women to be reemployed, with the Act on Gender Equality in Employment and Support for Work-life Balance, a key law regarding women's labor, mainly being designed to promote support for gender equality in employment and maternity protection.
