Abstract

The objective of this paper is to promote the understanding of industrial policy towards the declining industries and the mechanisms of industry structural adjustment in Korea. Several industries were selected to represent cases in which Korean loses competitiveness. This discussion paper is organized as follows. Chapter Ⅱ reviews structural changes in the Korean economy, while Chapter Ⅲ summarizes the mechanisms of industrial structural adjustment in Korea. Case studies of Korean declining industries are presented in Chapter Ⅳ. Chapter Ⅴ presents the conclusion and some lessons from Korea's experiences.
