Research on Gender Equality Practices by the General Public and Obstacles (Ⅳ): Focusing on Academic, Interpersonal, and Extracurricular Activities in Elementary and Secondary Schools
1. Purposes and Necessity of Research
Gender imbalance in the Korean society is drawing policy attention, and gender impact assessment and gender budgets have been introduced and executed these days. Nonetheless, gender inequality that is implicit in daily behaviors or activities is not considered to be problematic. To gradually remove gender imbalance factors in various areas of the society, endeavors to improve relevant systems and policies are necessary at a macroscopic level, along with efforts to discover and reveal problems in individuals' everyday lives at a microscopic level. Following the three previous studies to understand the actual state of activities in family life in 2009, work life in 2010, and college life in 2011, this research focuses on various activities in elementary and secondary schools. Also, it is the last of the four-year study to clarify how gender factors get involved, what factors maintain and preserve gender imbalances, and what factors could remove them.
