This study attempts to analyze the degree of assistance of family members including offspring providing for old-age income security, and look into the speed in which the social norms regarding private support has changed. In doing so, it discusses the proper role of family in the process of developing and reforming the public old age income security system.
First, the analysis examined the current income conditions of the elderly, particularly recent changes in the composition of income sources, using the first-to-fourth-wave panel data from the Korean Retirement and Income Study (KReIS) (2005~11). Using the data, this study tracked down the recent changes in income conditions experienced by the same age cohort and attempted to capture the changes in elderly life by comparing the same age cohorts using different time frames.
