Configuration of Korean agriculture
 Two-thirds
of land is mountainous, small size of arable land
1.7million ha in total Approximately 1.5 ha per farm cf. 430 acre in U.S. Expensive land price: about US$100,000 per acre
 Therefore,
it is very difficult to produce major feed grains such as corn, soybean, and wheat, which consume huge land

The share of agriculture in GDP showed a sharp decline

(1971) 17.6% → (1991) 7.6 → (2013) 2.1%

In addition, the share of Agricultural Population also declined


(1971) 44.7% → (1991) 14.1% → (2013) 5.7%
In 2013, Ag. Population was 2.847 million, over 60 year of age → 1.361million(48%)

The dramatic decrease is a result of the rapid industrialization

