Foreword
Education is an important policy measure for a nation's social and economic development. Education generates knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary for extensive and sustainable development. In the case of Korea, education has played a key role in the nation's development over the past several decades. Lacking in natural resources, Korea came to rely on education as a means for producing well trained manpower, who then became the driving force behind economic and social development. Successive central governments of Korea have given education top priority and have actively sought to coordinate human resource development with overall strategies for economic development. Similar to Korea, many African nations see education as a pivotal tool for economic development and have placed great emphasis on human resource development. African governments in collaboration with the World Bank are following joint efforts to realize and support programs for human resource development. As part of these efforts, the World Bank and the Korean Educational Development Institute(KEDI) came to organize and develop the Korean study tour for African education professionals.
