Myanmar's economic management for sustainable development

Frame of Image loping countries by disseminating Korea’s economic development experience. Since the Myanmar government adopted a market economy system in 1997, the government has tried to diminish accumulated fiscal deficits and growing economic instability. The Myanmar government requested the Knowledge Partnership (KP) Project to dispatch an advisory delegation for a policy advisory seminar to improve their economic management capacity for sustainable development. The goal of this project was to share the Korean experience with Myanmar government officers in economy-related ministries, policy makers, and opinion leaders in the fields of 1) macroeconomic management, 2) economic planning and national budgeting schemes, 3) industrialization strategies for agriculture, and 4) human resources development. The Korean delegation consisting of Dr. Hee-hyon Song, Professor at Incheon University; Dr. Won-am Park, Professor at Hongik University; Dr. Jin-kwon Hyun, Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Public Finance; Dr. Ho-seop Yoon, Senior Fellow at the Korea Rural Economic Institute; and Dr. Suk-min Chang, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training was dispatched to Myanmar to provide policy advise in their respective fields of expertise. Among other participants, more than 200 high-ranking government officials participated in the seminar.
