Abstract

This paper investigates technological, institutional and relevant determinants of firms' size, ownership form and export orientation and the relationships among them in IT manufacturing of Korea. One specific objective is to test for endogeneity in the process of firm's choices regarding firm size, export orientation and ownership form. Second is to test the relative effects of the various determinants of each of these decisions. This study is based on micro data from the following rapidly growing IT (Information and Communication Technology) manufacturing industries: KSIC (Korea Standard Industrial Classification) 30013 ‘I/O Units and Peripheral Equipment’, KSIC 32111 ‘Diodes, Transistors and Similar Devices’ and KSIC 3222 ‘Communication Apparatuses’. The data is from the “Report on Mining and Manufacturing Survey" for 1999. The econometric model used is a variant of the two-stage simultaneous generalized probit model. (The rest omitted)
