Abstract

This paper basically discusses dynamic effects of pollution taxes imposed on industrial sectors generating SOx on economic development and social welfare of the Seoul Metropolitan Area. Korea. This research finds that the pollution taxes imposed on the industrial sector depress the economic growth of the region despite the general improvement of the social welfare. However, the social welfare level also starts to reduce if the pollution tax rate is determined above the threshold line which is the same as the optimal rate of the pollution tax.
