Founded in 1990, the KIEP has played an important role in developing Korea’s international economic policy. KIEP possesses a concentrated knowledge and expertise in topics in economic affairs, such as development cooperation, international macro-economy, trade and investment, as well as trends in emerging economies. With the expertise, KIEP provides advice to the government on developing policy regarding international economy. He shared his wide range of global cooperation and knowledge sharing experiences in this interview. 1 K-Developedia and Knowledge Hubs series 17 – Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) 1. Could you introduce your institution’s knowledge sharing initiatives? As a research institute, we do not conduct knowledge sharing projects directly. Instead, we collect, analyze and review information and experiences in development and support the government establish policies by utilizing our accumulated information and knowledge. One of the examples may include multi-year study series titled, ‘Policy Research for Korea’s Development Cooperation’ and ‘Research on Country Partnership Strategies for Priority Countries.’ Through the projects, we collected relevant data, analyzed development needs specific to each partner country, and matched the needs with Korea’s strengths in development assistance.
