Création : WAEMU was created in 1994 by 8 contries which have a commun currency named CFA
States members : Bénin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinée Bissau, Mali, Niger, Sénégal et Togo. All of the 8 countries are also members of ECOWAS (Economic community of west african states). Both ECOWAS and WAEMU have the same economic vision and aims. They are convergent Population : WAEMU has around 109,6 millions peoples and its area is 3 506 126 km2. WAEMU Main Objectives : Creation of an economic space in which we have integration and harmonisation, Where we also have free movement of populations , goods , services, capital, and free establishment of business.

WAEMU works towards 5 specific objectves
 intensify the competitiveness of economic and financiary activities in States members to make convegent the performance and the economies of States members;  build up a common market among States members which is based on free movement of populations , goods , services, capital, and free establishment of business;  Coordinate sectorial policies( agriculture, Transport, energy, industry…) ;
 harmonise member countries legislation particularly in tax and budget domains.
