1. Can you briefly introduce KIHASA? KIHASA is one of the most influential research institutes in health and welfare policies in Korea. It originally started from Korea Institute for Family Planning (KIFP), which was founded in 1971 and merged with Korea Health Development Institute (KHDI) in 1981. During the period of restructuring social welfare systems after the financial crisis in 1997, KIHASA has expanded its function of policy consultations to a great extent by establishing numerous committees including Planning Committee for National Pension Improvement (1997), Steering Committee for Health Insurance Integration (1998), Steering Committee for Social Insurance Integration (1998). Furthermore, KIHASA has recently led the making of the Basic Plan for Low Fertility and Aging Society (2005, 2010, 2015), provided new standards for increasing national minimum benefits (2009), and planned ways to strengthen health insurance benefit coverage (2014).
