Abstract

Energy efficiency has played and will continue to play a critical role in achieving sustainable economic and social development in many countries in the world. A switch to efficient use of energy will also ease the growth in energy demand, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve energy security. Korea has made longstanding efforts to come up with diverse energy efficiency policies and ways to promote high-efficiency appliances to save energy and enhance living standards. The case studies in this report are aimed at sharing Korea’s useful experiences and expertise with other countries, especially Tajikistan, that wish to acquire more acceptable and relevant knowledge for enhancing energy efficiency and thereby to help achieve national energy security while improving the living conditions of the people. In particular, such knowledge sharing is expected to help prevent Tajikistan from otherwise making mistakes in implementing energy efficiency policies and programs. (The rest omitted)
