Abstract

The Act on The Promotion of the Development and Distribution of Intelligent Robots (hereafter the Korean Robot Act) was launched in 2008 and under the act, various policies have been adopted to promote the Korean robotics industry. For instance, the Korean government organized the Policy Council for the Robotics Industry in 2011 in order to promote interagency cooperation. Moreover, the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA) was established in 2011 and the institute was commissioned by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) to carry out the Robot Pilot Programs for Market Creation. The program links series of projects of completely developed robot products with actual market demand. According to previous quantitative assessments, through creating robot demand, the Korean Robot Act has contributed to the formation of an early-stage of the Korean robot market. The act also supported the establishment of the test-bed facilities and promoted research and development (R&D) investment in the robotics industry. (The rest omitted)
