Abstract
This study examines the causal effects of the Educational Broadcasting System on Korean high school students’ academic performance. Gyeonggi Education Panel Study data were analyzed applying propensity scores for multiple treatments to realistically reflect students’ processes of selecting their out-of-school education. The Educational Broadcasting System has expanded in use with the government’s policy to calm the overheated private education. To reflect this situation, the effect of the Educational Broadcasting System controlling for the effect of private tutoring was examined. Moreover, differential effects based on students’ family incomes and innovation schools were also analyzed. The results revealed that the Educational Broadcasting System is more effective for students who have low family incomes, and for innovation schools.
