Tiding over the global financial crisis : The Korean experience

Frame of Image  U.S. economy is yet suffering from a high unemployment rate. Countries in the euro zone are also in a similar condition. Stemming from lax management of government finances, the dire circumstances of southern European countries like Greece have flooded the news. As a result, concerns are mounting that the current tide of pessimism could spark yet another global financial crisis. In spite of the bleak state of affairs, no political consensus on how to ride out the crisis has been formed. Back in 1997, Korea was similarly hit hard as a result of the Asia-wide financial crisis. Fortunately, it was able to recover relatively quickly. During its recovery, Korea, unfortunately, did not produce research materials to systematically study how it effectively recovered from the crisis. Against this backdrop, this book “ T i d i n g over the Global Financial Crisis: The Korean Experience” has been published. To help researchers study related matters in the future and to help policymakers devise economic policies, systematic analysis of the recovery process of the latest global financial crisis are covered in this book. In view of the latest global crisis that originated in the U.S. and because the crisis will have a major impact on the reorganization of the global economic order (including the emergence of China as a world power), it is imperative that the causes and the results of the crisis be carefully analyzed.
