Abstract

This study aims to look at ‘the colonization of lifeworld by the system’ and ‘the rehabilitation of the lifeworld’ through the lens of two cultural festivals, in a comparative framework. It analyzes the internal competition between different kinds of rationality and the external power struggle between the system (including the state and the market) and the lifeworld (civil society). We focus on the dynamic interdependence between the internal and the external tensions and the possibility of reproducing meaning in everyday life. We also analyze people’s spatial behavior and their response to the actual events, because cultural festivals are considered places where the rehabilitation of the urban lifeworld is possible.(The rest is omitted)
