The construction industry has experienced tremendous changes - both within and without- over the last few years. Changes primarily come from two sources: globalization and liberalization. At the inception of the WTO the construction market is open up to foreign firms as other market are. At the same time the construction industry is undergoing deregulation process now. These changes put quite a strain on the construction firms Now the survival depends on relative competitiveness in terms of technology, price and cost of production.
The question is how effectively individual firms respond to these changes. Some firms may try to restructure the management system so that it can be more responsive to those changes. Other may try to utilize given resources efficiently - capital, labor and materials- in order to stay competitive. And some large firms may want to be more globalized in their business operations.
