Abstract

While the distribution demand of goods and freight increases together with a rapid economic growth, a poor distribution structure causes the unnecessary transportation costs. As the large-scale retailer and freight agents who have a good management system and big capital are about to come into Korea by the international UR agreements, it is necessary to decrease the distribution costs by improving the outmoded necessary to decrease the distribution costs by improving the outmoded distribution structure that most domestic company are facing currently
Weak points in domestic wholesale and retail are the stagnation of large-sized retailers who deal low-price commodities and consequently need the low-price distribution lot. To strengthen the international competitiveness of multi-trade freight company, the enlargement of distribution centers is the most important pre-condition
Especially as the region adjacent to highways gets merits such as good accessibility, low-price and large-scale land, such area is the good location of distribution centers. If the distribution centers are built effectively along highways, our domestic companies are benefited by the large potential market through connection centers with the hinterland and the usage of highway communication network.
Recently the distribution center development plan is established by the central and local government, and Korea Highway Company(KHC). But prior to the implementation of the plan, a research on a reasonable operation policy for the plan is critical for the successful execution.
The purpose of this study is to suggest a reasonable operation policy for the future distribution center development plan. The project execution strategies of the freight distribution and retail center development are as follows :
First, to conglomerate the distribution facility
Second, to suburbanize the location of the distribution centers
Third, to localize the distribution centers
Fourth, to encourage the participation of the priviate sector
Fifth, to distinguish the support system of developing the distribution centers by the type of center. (The rest omitted)
