Abstract

In this study we analyze the effect of technology innovation on employment and
the present situation of S&T jobs in Korea. Based on the above analysis, we try to
suggest several policy measures to improve the effect of technology innovation on
employment and to create more S&T jobs.
For this purpose, the mechanism for job creation in innovation activities is modeled
and then the effect of job creation is analyzed by each of three kinds of path, such
as R&D Personnel effect, Technology start-ups effect and corporate growth effect. We
try to find out the size of employment effects through international comparisons, if
possible. The main results of the analysis are summarized as following table.
Futhermore, this report was to identify main factors that inhibit job creation in
R&D activities in Korea, such as lack of specialization and segmentation of S&T jobs
and insufficiency of the foundation for creation and growth of technology stat-ups.
Finally, we suggest following policy measures for increasing employment by
innovation activities.
