Abstract

In recent years, the 1/5,000 scale digital basemap has been generated under National Geographic Information System(NGIS) Development Project. The digital basemap generated will be the backdrop data for thematic maps, underground facilities maps and so on.
The digital absemap will be distributed to the government and private sectors in near future so that it should meet the requirements as the base data. In order to assure the quality of digital basemap in objective sense, the development for automatic assurance program was in great need. In this research, we were mainly concerned with improving the quality of digital basemap data in geometric aspect as well as the processing time due to the amount of digital data nerated. The program developed in this study performs the following quality assurance:

1.All entities should be inside of the map noudaries. Therefore, adjacent maps should be edge-matched on each side of maps.
2.All entities in digital basemap should be assigned to pre-defined layer and their structures should follow the rules of digital basemap generating guidance.
3.All digital basemap entities should represented by the INSERT, LINE, POLYLINE, TEXT in PXF structure and also should not overlap each other.
4.The polygon of building should be closed except for the building on the side of map and its corresponding symbol should be inside of building polygon.
5.The contour lines can not be broken, but also intersected and furthermore should be smooth enough.
6.The contour lines and control points(spot heights) should be in three dimensional coordinates.
7.This program processes and confirms the edge matching on the adjacent maps for 4-connectivity.
