There have not been made many studies about an evaluation method for the logistic nodes in respect to connectivity. Korean logistic system has been pointed with a lack of connectivity between different modes, in particular.
This study aims to develop an evaluation method for the logistic nodes with respect to connectivity and suggests that Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) is one of proper methods for the purpose.
However, there are some limitations to apply the conclusions of this study to other models. The limitations mainly come from the restriction of research time and quantified data. Therefore, there are some cautions to interpret the conclusions of the study.
The study has developed a method for the logistic nodes with AHP which have many advantages to support a decision system such as ability to consider the quantified items and qualified items simultaneously. Each item is based on the National Logistics Plan and existing studies. After the development of the method, the model is applied to 3 logistic nodes which are Incheon, Kwangyang, Taegue in order to test feasibility of the model.
The AHP survey has been carried out to 20 logistic professionals from the academic and research institutes. Analysis gives the priorities of each item and tell us that various transport modes in a node is the most important item(0.098). Also, the convenient connectivity to neighboring industrial areas and the easiness of transfer to other transport modes are important items from the survey.
To test feasibility of the model in real world, 3 logistic nodes= Incheon, Kwangyang, Daegue – are selected and evaluated with the developed model. The scores of 3 logistic nodes are drived from the AHP survey and Incheon is marked with the highest scores followed by Kwangyang and Taegue. The results are not far from with our anticipation.
The study shows that the evaluation method for the logistic nodes should be used as a base of Korean National Logistic System in future and the current system need to be reviewed with the international logistic system and the domestic logistic system. This could result in improvement of efficiency in the national logistic system.
