Abstract

This study starts from the recognition that we need to secure the data related to the territorial use in the North Korean region that is extremely insufficient, compared with the increasing exchanges and cooperation between South and North Korea and future potentials for cooperation. Currently, the exchanges and cooperation with North Korea are accompanied by physical development, and the need for exchanges and cooperation in the Eastern Asian region are felt more urgent than any other time. To realize various discussions and plans, what is most important is to secure the raw data about the territorial use in North Korea, such as roads, railroads, and other territorial uses. Under this background, this study is designed to establish the method of examining the territorial use status in North Korea, which is required for the inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation, infrastructure construction on the Korean Peninsula, and establishment of land planning. It is an application study based on the methodologies of preceding studies.
Most of all, the demand for the information on the North Korean land usage occurs from the level of land planning establishment, and
it is aimed at coping with Northeast Asian regional plans, inter-Korean economic cooperation, and reunification of the two nations. For this, relatively macroscopic territorial use information is commonly required, such as the infrastructure status, land contour, geological features, and water system. More detailed geographical information may be required as actual projects are implemented step by step. (The rest is omitted.)
