Celebrating 10 years of family planning
A ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of family planning in Korea was held in Seoul on November 10th. Thirty-four people were presented with citations from the prime minister and the minister of public health for their contributions to the family planning project, including Lee Seon-nyeo, a family planning advisor in Chuncheon City. In addition, 363 people received letters of appreciation. Up to this point, the Family Planning Association, the main institution of family planning, has led the campaign to adjust our country’s population. The association spreads knowledge about family planning by mailing informative literature to homes across the country. It is also responsible for the establishment of family planning clinics in community health centers nationwide where advice and surgical sterilization procedures are offered for free. Guided by the wrong belief that children are born with their own resources to live on, people tend to have a lot of children which leads to poverty.
It is wise to have an appropriate number of children regardless of whether they are sons or daughters and to raise them sincerely. That is the attitude of parents who are wisely preparing for tomorrow.
Agricultural education for the rural development
The Daehan News team visited the cradle of young people who dream of developing our agriculture. This is Suwon Agriculture and Forestry High School in Gyeonggi-do, named the best school among all agricultural high schools nationwide this year. The school pursues three objectives: educating self-reliant farmers, training agricultural and forestry specialists and providing education about market-oriented agriculture. To provide practical education, half its curriculum consists of common subjects and the other half of occupational subjects. The students in the animal husbandry department raise and milk cows themselves, while the students in the forestry department have access to a vast 70,000-pyeong (3.3 square meter) forest area that fosters the green dreams of the future. The 700 students enrolled in this professional school envision themselves becoming self-reliant farmers and cooperative agricultural leaders. Moving forward, the agricultural skills and knowledge acquired by these young students at this institution will be instrumental to the prosperity of our agricultural industry.
