Abstract

Moving from a job at a small- or medium-sized enterprise (SME) to one at a large firm is not rare, but, rather, it takes place quite frequently. Among those large-firm employees who graduated from college 1 year ago, 27.6% had the experience of working at SMEs. This figure increases to 48.5% among those graduated from college 3 years ago. These results show that moving from a SME to a large firm is not restricted, but quite open. In addition, those who have worked at a SME for 1 year earn 5% more compared to those who have no work experience at a firm, other things being constant. This implies that it will be more rational for graduates to find a job at a SME and gain experience before moving to a large firm rather than staying unemployed to enter a large firm.
