Abstract

Recently the early separation rate of college graduate newcomers becomes about to 30% during high unemployment of young workers. This study investigates the status and causes of early separation of college graduate newcomers by using the GOMS(Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey, 2006). According to their status of early separation, we found that the 33.1% of them had experienced the job separation and among them the ratio of early separation(less than 1 year) was 62.2%. We also show the systematic gap between small and midium-sized firm and large firm by analyzing the distribution of length of tenure and the causes of early separation of them. The result of estimating OLS model on the determinants of length of tenure also make the difference. Since the satisfaction of job contents and human relation among the workplace satisfaction items have the positive effect on the length of tenure, the mentoring program will be an appropriate tool of retention for reducing early separation and developing organizational socialization of college graduate newcomers.
