This study analyzes the qualifications obtained by university students as part of their preparation for future employment. It reveals that the possession of national qualifications(18.6%) and private qualifications(16.4%) were found to contribute to heightening employability. However, as far as wages were concerned, a slight increase(3.4%) was revealed only in international qualifications. A period analysis finds that the possession of private qualifications does heighten the employment rate (7.9%). However, not one of these three kinds of qualifications have any influence during the actual period of employment.
These results imply that qualifications do not help to satisfy job requirements in specific job fields, but rather are regarded as an element of job seekers’ preparations for employment. Therefore, university students focus on acquiring the qualifications in the particular field where they desire to seek jobs.
