Abstract

Future study is defined as a foresight in developing desirable future images considering plausible projections rather than defined as a prediction which precisely describes possible changes that may occur prior to the actual events.
In transportation sector, current future foresight studies have been focusing on partial issues for changes of future society. However, none of future studies in transportation sector, which adopt more comprehensive and systemic methodologies to analyze overall future trends and draw issues and tasks in pursuant to realize desirable future state, have been carried out. Therefore, it is required to carry out future studies in transportation sector with long-term transportation vision by analyzing megatrend parameters such as changes in demographic structure, economic growth, changes in global economic paradigm, political changes, and technological advancement.
This study draws megatrend of future society though meta-analysis for changes in society and projections in transportation sector presented by other domestic and overseas researches and identifies contribution factors of megatrends in transportation sector. Also, the study diagnoses the changes of users’ behaviors in transportation demand due to the changes in demographic and economic structures through quantitative analysis. The study selects future transportation issues reflecting opinions of general citizens and transportation experts. Based on selected transportation issues, it visually presents future transportation images and execution tasks related to future transportation system based on countermeasures drawn by SOWT analysis on four basic needs of our society, four goals.
