Abstract

The steep growth of shadow banking in Korea is arousing concerns. Contrary to the negative perception in the past, shadow banking now serves a positive role by replacing the conventional banking system to provide wealth management tools and supply risk capital. Particularly, Korea’s shadow banking has many merits and its risk is not too high. However, constant risk management is required for certain shadow banking products because they have rising mis-selling risk and may cause systemic risk in a crisis.
