Abstract

On the prospect of U.S. and China relations around 2030 with respect to Northeast Asia’s regional political order, the goal of this study is to formulate unification strategy for the ROK. To achieve this end, an analytical framework and three different scenarios are proposed by reflecting upon main concepts(balance of power, institutions interdependence, idea) of realism, liberalism and constructivism - three major theories of international relations. The first scenario, ‘confrontational power transition order’, is set on the premise that China will eventually exceed in terms of economic and defence capability over U.S. by taking its quantitative advantage in the realm of confrontational political power structure, thereby pursuing hegemony within the region. But, China is not yet at a level to take dominant position over U.S. The second scenario, ‘cooperative power balance order’, assumes the stage where China’s growth slows down while seeking to reduce the level of conflict with U.S. (The rest omitted)
