Abstract

In this paper, I have tried to describe how the incentive structure was constituted by industrial policies and how it has evolved in the Korean industrial policy regimes from 1962-1997. The discussion begins with a conceptual explanation of three types of incentives – 1. Overall incentives, 2. Functional incentives, and 3. Selective incentives – in order to group and to characterize industrial policies. The term of incentive structure in this paper means the pattern and the way how these three types of incentives were combined. After dividing the development period according to the political and economic criteria, I attempt to describe the Korean incentive structure and its evolution.
