Abstract

Korea and Japan have many similarities in economic, political, social and cultural dimensions. With transport policy making in particular, there is much resemblance. For these reasons, the Korean transport policy creation process had bench-marked Japanese examples, but recently Japan has been showing interest in Korea’s leading and innovative transport policies including public transport reform, convergence of ICT for transport.
However, despite the increasing interest, referencing of each other’s policies has been one-dimensional, and lacked deep understanding and a systematic approach.

Lately we have been pressing global issues such as global warming and energy depletion, which demands more encouragement to use public transport, such as buses, taxis and railroads. To effectively achieve this goal we need more effective solutions to prevent the decline in the public transport business sector and the decreasing demand for public transport. (The rest omitted)
