Abstract

South Korean and Japanese industrial conglomerates are quite unique in nature compared with other industrial conglomerates found across the world. This paper discussed both style of conglomerates in the context of value-based management (VBM). By definition, VBM emphasizes on the financial gains for the shareholders more than other stakeholders. VBM is widely used in the Western corporations in order to maximize the shareholdersʼ return on their invested money. However, the concept of VBM in most of the Korean and Japanese corporations is rather new. In this paper, we investigated what VBM means for Korean and Japanese corporations and what is the magnitude of VBM in both the countries.
