Abstract

Saemaul Movement policy was initiated in Korea in the 1970s and has continued to be implemented up until today, though its targets and focuses have changed to a certain extent in the intervening time, reflecting changing conditions in Korea. Today, the policy is eliciting a great deal of attention from international organizations, which see it as a potentially good development model for less advanced countries. In particular, international organizations such as the UN, the OECD, and the Asian Development Bank have appreciated it as being a successful rural development policy applicable to other countries, and have called for it to be researched further and to be disseminated among less developed countries.
